  1. Roadside Cleanup was a great success with Rotarians and their children helping out and collecting 20 bags of uninteresting, boring trash. Best part of the experience according to Todd’s son…breakfast.
  2. Dictionary Project near completion and Brandi gave the report and reminders for Ellen.
  3. Christmas Parade will continue this year under the leadership of the past committee and board of directors. This will be December 1…always the first Friday in December…stay tuned for future developments.
  4. October is Literacy Month and in keeping with that the Washington Rotary Club supports Literacy by distributing dictionaries to 3rd grade students a number of Washington Area Schools. These schools are Washington, McGuffey, Burgettstown, Avella, Trinity and Fort Cherry. Pictured is William Price, former Superintendent of the Burgettstown School District, distributing dictionaries to the 3rd. graders in the Burgettstown Elementary Center.

Chair Dave Hart, as promised, dressed in his “Rotarian at Work” shirt and had hat-in-hand and collected for World Polio Day which is October 24. The hat got a work out and was full of donations and Dave reminds us that more collections will be made at the next meeting. All forms of payment accepted, even rolled coins.
The club came up with OVER $700!

PROGRAM: Dr. James Konrad

Rotarian Bob Wicker introduced Dr. James Konrad, the new Superintendent of the Washington School District. Originally from Philadelphia area attended Duquesne University and continued as an administrator in Michigan. Jim and his family are now settled here.
In his short few months on the job, Jim is well aware of the potential for students and staff of the district. He spoke of his vision for the district and the multi-faceted approach to achieve these goals.
He also mentioned that unless you are HERE and IN the Washington District you don’t get or understand the true meaning of Prexie Pride.
There were many questions and those were all answered with sincerity and hope for the continued success within the district.

We are pleased to report that the Zone 29 Nominating Committee has selected Past Rotary Foundation Trustee and Past District Governor Stephanie Urchick to serve as Rotary International Director representing Zones 28 and 29 in 2019-2021.
Stephanie is a member of the Canonsburg-Houston-Soithpointe Rotary Clus and is a frequent visitor to our club.
